BIOGRAPHY

About Me

I am originally from the northern part of the state, Warren and Vance County, the youngest of four. I attended public school, graduating from Northern Vance High School.  After graduation, I attended Shaw University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and North Carolina Central University as an NCTEACH student (North Carolina Teacher of Excellence for All Children), majoring in Special Education. I currently hold certifications in Special Education and Regular Education. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking and spending time with my husband, son and family in North Carolina and Boston. I love dogs, especially my shih tzu and I am a HUGE SPORTS FAN: loving all things Blue Devils, the Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.
I look forward to a fun-filled year that includes learning that will engage ALL students.

CURRICULUM ASSISTANCE

What is Curriculum Assistance?

Curriculum Assistance is a class that is designed for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). It is a support class that aids to the success of content area classes, i.e., English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, VOCATS, and/or other electives taken by the student. Additionally, this class is designed to tackle annual IEP goals and short term objectives, in the areas of reading, mathematics, and writing. This enables academic progress and helps in possible processing problems some students may have.

In-Class-Resource

ICR provides support to students who need the opportunity to receive grade level instruction.  The special education teacher and the general education teacher plan together and co–‐teach to incorporate multi sensory strategies into instruction and ensure that modifications and accommodations outlined in the IEP allow students who are below grade level to benefit from the class.  The students in ICR classes who require direct instruction on skills may receive additional support (i.e., decoding class, and/or CA).  Students who only need organizational skills are best served through appropriate accommodations or CA.
